The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Billie over to see Dr. Goldenhar’s for his feet. Bill read all morning and down to Betty’s to watch movies.

Thursday, July 3, 1986 DAVID VERY SICK

Billie and Zack down to get fence stakes. David is suffering from severe headache. He is waiting for a doctor’s call. Carmen and Dennis called today. They went up to camp a while. Billie up to Dorothea’s today, they got David to go down to the Dr. or hospital for shots. He got a double one which should last for 24 to 48 hours to give him relief. Bill to the Dr. for checkup, he is fine.

Friday, July 4, 1986 STATUE OF LIBERTY

A big weekend in New York. It has been on TV and very interesting to watch. Well it has been a mostly cloudy day and on the cold side. We went up to camp for a cookout. It was nice, hot, cold. Betty H Betty S., Joy W, Kay M all stayed all night. They had a good time. Milan will go up and get the breakfast. The Hortons, Wolffs, Crooks, Martins, Smith, Willette, Yates and, Thomas. I vacuumed, dusted. Made a cake and cupcakes.
