The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Monday, May 25, 1981 new cow, mostly Guernsey, Memorial Day

Another very hot day. I done a big wash. I made cupcakes and stuffed eggs. Bill didn’t do anything, too hot. Billie had another cow come today to help eat the grass in the pasture. Jersey and Guernsey and maybe something else in her, a mixed breed. A nice young cow. She had been with cattle that had horns, the others did. She was crowded from her food and was poor. At night we went to a cookout at Betty’s. Charlene, Tom, Fern, Bill and I. Billie ate here at home, he was hungry and it was so late by the time Betty got home from Charlene’s sale shop. Carmen having a slumber party tonight.

Another nice very Hot day. It seems good to have this good sunny and hot weather. The gardens are very dry, need some showers. I did a big ironing. Also I washed the things I got at sale at Charlene’s. Also ironed those after supper. I cleaned up the house, prepared supper. Washed floors. Bill and Kimmy done some fishing at the lake while down at the Barnaby’s camp. After supper they, Kim, Zak and Carmen went up to Stearns Lake (Pond)  fishing. Betty and I went up for a minute, too many mosquitoes. Billie and Dorothea went to Norway, she got her cupboard.
