The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 12 - 13, 1981 Carmen Graduates High School

Friday, June 12, 1981 GRADUATION DAY CARMEN CHRISTIE BOUTILIER HORTON, Carmen’s class at a party tonight all night affair. She had a good time

A very nice sunny day. I got up early with a lot of work to do. Dorothea came. I went down with Dorothea to get some antiques. I came home, flew around, done my work, washed some, I did ironing. I made some rhubarb pies. Then I watched some shows, got our clothes out and ready to wear tonight. Dorothea came, we went and got Fern. We got down and got Fern into the hall. We had to wait a long time. It was all very nice and interesting. Carmen was awarded the Raymond S. Allen Award. I was very proud as her own family and grandparents and aunts. Carmen got a nice phone call from her father Mike. She was very pleased.

A very nice clear and sunny day. It was very sunny and warm. I didn’t get up until six. I changed the beds, swept and dusted. Made cupcakes and fixed eggs for the Graduation Party tomorrow. I washed floors, dusted rest of the house etc. In PM Bill and I went to Harrison. I washed. Kimmy’s boyfriend Jerry Emerson from Naples called to see her. Carmen and the girls didn’t get up very early, they didn’t get home till 4 AM today. Fern got over tired and sick.
