The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

May 13 - 15, 1981

Wednesday, May 13, 1981

It was raining and cloudy most all day. It cleared off late tonight. I cleaned all my dishes, scoured the pots and pans that needed to be done. Late in PM it cleared off. Bill up to Dorothea’s. Linscott’s are moving light things in their cars.

Thursday, May 14, 1981 LINSCOTT’S MOVED

At last a nice sunny day. I got my work done up. Dorothea came and Delores and I went to town with her. I came home, picked dandelions for supper. I washed today. Dorothea called in the evening, also Kim. Betty’s kids all to the dentist. This morning a big Noye’s moving van went by to Linscott’s. A big load went by moving to their new home in Windham.

Friday, May 15, 1981 clear in a.m., cloudy in PM and thundershowers in evening

Nice and sunny when we got up this morning. Mild again. This is been a nice day. I done my Fridays work. I picked some dandelions for supper. Betty had her finger lanced. Dr. took out the tumor. She called. Carmen called in late PM. Kim up after supper a little while. Billie busy all day. Bill worked on his car. Mowed lawns. Thundershowers tonight.
