The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Sunday, June 14, 1981 Graduation Party

A nice day until late PM it got cloudy and the breeze blowing in from the East made it real cool. I done up my regular work, got ready and went down to Betty’s. They had a very nice graduation party for Carmen. She got many gifts and money. It was a very nice party and Dorothea made a beautiful cake for the occasion. Guests: Joy, Cindy, Susan, Vince, Chris and Monica, Fern, Bill, Billie, me, Dorothea, David, Debbie and Jay, Tom, Charlene, Phyllis and Carmen’s friends Doreen, Maureen and Lisa. And the Horton family. Fern don’t feel much better.

It started out a cloudy day. Later it cleared off, was very hot. I defrosted my refrigerator, made a cornflake pudding, fixed a Swiss steak supper. I watched TV soaps in PM. Bill and Billie in and out. Carmen came up in PM and she had a very nice card with a brand-new $20 bill in it from her sired father Mike. Also some snapshots. She was very pleased. Carmen came up, I invited her to stay for supper. Kim and Zak to school today. Fern a dite better. Billie was down.

Kim came home from school late. Carmen called in PM. Betty up to Joy’s to help her do porch windows. Fern is better, but still not too good.
