The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Saturday, November 3, 1979 HOMECOMING LRHS

A very rainy day. Dorothea and David came up and are up to their house. Bill up there too. Betty called, she, Zak and I went down to see the float. Juniors, Carmen’s class. It was raining so hard they couldn’t take it out of the barn. So the judges had to go there to judge them. Then Mr. McHatton hauled in down to the school. Because of the awful rain they didn’t have the parade. Carmen is very excited and happy. Kimmy up here today relaxing. Billie worked in the barn again today. I made a cake, bread and beans. Laurie home today. Today was a big success for LAKE REGION HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS. They had the best float of the school. Also won many other prizes. Carmen had a good time, came up and told me about it after she got home from the dance. She was excited. She had a good time. Kim has her asthma problem, no relief.

Well a more pleasant day. Some fair weather clouds. Dorothea and Dave came about 10 AM but David is having a problem with hemorrhoids. Bill over to Buddy’s then David went over. They helped Buddy with the tractor. They got it to going. But he took it up to David’s to store for the winter. They went up to the house and left some things they brought up. Came back here, had lunch. Talked. Betty came. Billie helped Walt with the wood. Dorothea and Dave left to go home about 3 PM. Someone was going to look at their house today. I have been working at my desk today.
