The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 9 - 12, 1963



Saturday, March 9, 1963

A beautiful day. I wrote to Dorothea and family etc. Some of Betty’s snaps came back. Doreen and Betty enjoyed themselves today. In evening they went up to Whitney’s and played cards. Carmen real cunning today. Billie worked in a.m. at the plant, in p.m. for Boynton. Betty and Doreen and Carmen called on Dick and Dale Day in p.m.



Sunday, March 10, 1963

A cloudy, snowy day. Cleared in PM. Bill had to work. Kennie and Dot called. Bennie and Lou came for Doreen. Billie down the line with Lawrence buying cattle etc. Wind blowing hard tonight.



Monday, March 11, 1963

Very nice and sunny, not too cold, some wind. I washed, my clothes dried good. Fern and Lloyd called. Her other snaps came of Carmen, very good. Betty down to Dawn’s in p.m. I got my clothes in in the afternoon. Carmen Christie very good today.



Tuesday, March 12, 1963

Storm. More snow. We ironed. Betty made cookies. Baby good all day. I wrote to Jean.
