The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 16 - 19, 1963 Dorothea and Jeff Leave for MI

Saturday, February 16, 1963

10 below, very cold. DOROTHEA AND JEFFREY left home here to go back to Detroit after making us such a nice long visit. They came here 12 December. I have loved every minute of the time they have been with us. They went to Portsmouth, Dover, NH. To Logan Airport and Portland. Had so much fun with Jeff. Dorothea enjoyed being with her family and friends. Fern, Lloyd, Bill and I took them to the airport to meet the plane. We love them and miss them. Betty has had a painful week. Carmen fussy.

Sunday, February 17, 1963 Betty Louise Crook Boutilier’s birthday

10 below early, warmed up. Betty Louise Crook Boutilier 20 years today. Carmen Christie very pretty. A nice day. We miss Jeffrey and Dorothea. Betty feels better today from her stitches and pain from the birth. She has a sore throat today. She dressed up today, cleaned up the house, didn’t do too much with the baby. She and I to town. Billie down to Porter with Lawrence. Kenny, Dot called. Bob and Blanche, Joy and girls over and gave Betty a birthday cake and ice cream. We miss Dorothea and Jeff so much all day. Very quiet. Baby good.
