The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 17 - 20, 1963

Sunday, March 17, 1963

Rain. Not much company, just Kennie and Dot. Betty didn’t get up very early. I been thinking about Mike all day. In evening Joy came over. Betty called Mike, he didn’t answer. He wasn’t at the camp.

Monday, March 18, 1963

I washed, not too cold in the a.m. It got cold in the p.m. In evening Betty got the phone call she has been waiting for. Mike called. He was glad to talk but needs to get home. Gordon and Sal called in evening. Joy and girls here in p.m. Carmen slept most all day. Mike is going to get his transfer to going, we hope. Letter from Adair’s.

Tuesday, March 19, 1963

Very mild. A very nice mild day. I done up the work, ironed. Made a pie. Betty made some cookies. She felt better today. Blanche, Delores and Debbie called in PM. In evening Betty went down to Bessie’s and got her hair cut and set. We have such high snowbanks.

A Hectic DAY. Snow, cloudy, dreary. Busy all day. Baby fussy all day, didn’t sleep. I went to town with Blanche. Got Bill’s pills. Cooked, churned, busy busy all day.
