The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

April 15 - 18, 1963 A New Car

Monday, April 15, 1963 MIKE’S LETTER CAME

Today Betty and Carmen got letters from their big guy. A very nice letter. Also Betty got her record. I washed. Joy and Buddy called and Lori. Joy and Buddy called to say goodbye. Betty and Bill raked the small front lawn after supper.

Tuesday, April 16, 1963

A nice day. Warmer. I got Es’s letter off. I did some ironing. Got rest of the clothes in, churned, got a roast pork supper. Had Kennie and Dot up. Blanche and Lori here today. Blanche took me to town. Kay and her boyfriend here in the evening. Ernest Holden called. Joy and Buddy and Debbie left for Camden, New Jersey. It seems good to have the snow gone.

Wednesday, April 17, 1963

Cloudy. Kay up here and spent the day. Betty and I to town doing some bank business. I cooked, cleaned up the downstairs. Tonight we bought a 1960 Ford Fairlane 500 from Holden Brothers. Betty, Kay and I went down and took Fern out for a ride. Betty is pleased.

Thursday, April 18, 1963

Rained in a.m., cleared about 12:30 or 1 o’clock. Very nice rest of the day. Betty out driving the new car. Aunt Ava and Uncle Lewis came and spent the day. Our old 1956 Plymouth went this morning. Betty likes driving the new car.
