The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Thursday, October 18, 1962 Baby Shower

Beautiful day, warm. Dorothea and I cleaned up all the house to get ready for shower for Betty. Jeff is so darn cute all the time it seems. So good to see him playing around here. I have seen so many other kids. Blanche called here today. Betty didn’t hear from Mike today. She feels so upsets and miserable about it. I hope he writes to her soon. Tonight we had T-bone steaks. Betty had a very happy surprise tonight. She had a lovely shower and received a lot a very nice and pretty gifts.

Friday, October 19, 1962 ADAIRS LEFT

Another beautiful day, warm. Dorothea, Denny and Jeff left for home this morning about 930. I hated to see them go. Anyway, now they are where they can come home occasionally. I will be looking forward to them next summer. Poor Jeff. I will miss him. After they left Betty and I did up the work and got my bedroom all cleaned up good. Betty took her test for a driver’s permit. She got it and drove Bill and I to town in evening. No letter from Mike. We have had perfect weather all time they had been here. Betty took some pictures with her camera. Adairs left today for home in Detroit.
