The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Sunday, December 30, 1962 Bill 54

Cleared off before daylight, very cold and windy. We had about 12 inches of snow last night. Today it has been so awful cold. Bill went to work last night about 7:30. He got home about 2:30 today. Today we had a very pretty birthday cake made by Betty and Dorothea. Had ice cream. For guests we had Bob and Blanche, Kennie and Dot, Fern, Lloyd, Ken and Delores. Timmy Boutilier here too. A very heavy wind all day. Awful drifts.

Monday, December 31, 1962

Very cold and windy, about five below. Awful wind last night, worse than anyone has seen for many years. We didn’t wash. Two cold and windy. Didn’t do much in paticular today. Fern and Lloyd called. Timmy and Jeff on the warpath all day. They played real good. No trouble at all. Today ends  another year of all kinds of emotions for all. Betty to Washington and lived with Mike for a few months. Dorothea and family came home from England. They visited us in October. Then in December Dorothea and Jeffrey returned for a months visit till they get their new home. Uncle Os passed on which was a blessing to all concerned. Goodbye 1962
