The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 27 - 30, 1962 Billie Drives to CT



Tuesday, November 27, 1962

A very nice day. I did my ironing, cleaned up the living room. Then a dite of cooking. In PM I washed living room windows and put up my winter curtains. Also washed some of the dining room curtains. Will finish them tomorrow. Blanche called in late p.m. I made a turkey pie. Betty took a long walk today.



Wednesday, November 28, 1962

A very nice day, high temperatures. I churned, cooked, went to town with Fern and Lloyd. I finish the curtains. Fern up here for supper. Betty and I to Holly’s shower tonight at Ada Thompson’s.



Thursday, November 29, 1962

Beautiful day. We are having 40 to 50° above temperatures. It is so good. I finished my curtains today, washed the dining room windows, put up rest of the curtains. Blanche came over here. Mama down to Dot Prescott’s all day. About 11:30 Billie came home. He had to go to Connecticut. Blanche and Betty went with him. Billie had to get parts to use at Dialectic. They called on Milan’s folks and visited with Norma and Milan. Betty Smith was sick.



Friday, November 30, 1962

Beautiful day. I cleaned up the house and done up the housework. I was up early this morning. That was when they got home from Connecticut, about 4:30 AM. Betty was very tired. Blanche called in p.m. In evening Bill, Betty and I to town. Got a letter from Esther.
