The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

October 7 - 10, 1979 SNOW

Sunday, October 7, 1979 another cloudy rainy day

 

I got up at about 7 AM. Got breakfast. Dorothea and Dave came. I changed my beds. Kim and Zak with the Tomei children all called. Also Walt and Ralph Tomei. Bill up with David today. Very miserable day. It got cold too.

 

 

 

Monday, October 8, 1979

 

A partly cloudy day. It was quite nice and some sun. I did a big wash, the clothes dried good. No school today. Dorothea and David and Bill worked up to Dave’s place. Bill gets quite tired.

 

 

 

Tuesday, October 9, 1979 SNOW

 

Well what a miserable day this has been. SNOW and some rain when we got up this morning. It soon began to snow. It rained some them began to all snow, we got about 2 to 3 inches. In some places they got 5 to 7 inches. I did my ironing early this morning. Done a few other odds and end jobs. Bill and Billie didn’t do much. Bill got the new furnace to going. It sure heats good.

 

 

 

Wednesday, October 10, 1979

 

A cloudy day. Snow still on the ground. I done regular work. I did a dite of washing. I made 2 pies. Betty and Joy up doing Dorothea‘s stove today. We took off rest of the screens. It is very cold today. Bill paid Pete Hewson today for the furnace.
