The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

July 9 - 12, 1979 Zak's Basketball Camp

Monday, July 9, 1979 FINISHED MOWING, ZAK TO A BASKETBALL MEETING

Well another very nice day, on the humid side. I done my regular work. Washed. I went with Betty down to LR high school to take Zak down for a basketball check up. Bill finished mowing the hay. Carmen has been painting the corral and play house. Dorothea and Betty called on Joy a little while last evening.

Tuesday, July 10, 1979 HAY ALL IN

It has been a very hot and humid day. The hay made good. They raked it and baled it. In late PM they began hauling it and at 6:30 it was all in. I washed, ironed, cleaned my kitchen cupboards, washed and ironed my kitchen curtains. Down to Betty’s in PM a little while then came home, watched my programs. Down to Betty’s and watched them get the hay in.

It was cloudy again this morning but it cleared off. I done up my work, went down with Betty to get my hair set. Came home after I stopped at Cark’s. We got Delores and went to the NF store. I came home, got lunch then I picked a quart of strawberries. I called at the cottage and tent where Betty and Carmen was working, painting etc. I came home, watched my programs. Wes came up and brought up the new cow and calf. Also took our 2 cows Billie sold to Millet, up to him.
