The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

August 6 - 9, 1979 Milan, Betty, Norma, Regina and Jason Left

Monday, August 6, 1979

Well at last no HUMIDITY. This is been a cool, on the windy side. I did an ironing, washing, made a pie. Betty helped to do the work. Then she got ready and went to see her sister Sue Libby. She, Norma and children. Jason is such a cute little kid. Regina is a very nice and mature child. I had a big wash. Well, Walt had another attack this morning. Betty had to take him to hospital. He is staying there tonight. Billie to the auction today.

Another cooler day. Walt still in hospital. He had another bad spell this morning, he had it at the hospital. Well, Walt got better, he was able to come home. We called to see him. He looks bad. Milan, Betty took Kim, Jason and Regina out most of the day. I did a wash and ironed.

Thursday, August 9, 1979 Pa to hospital, MILAN, BETTY, NORMA, REGINA AND JASON LEFT

A nice clear cool day. Up early. Got ready to go to Portland with Betty, Kim and Zak to do their school shopping and they went to the dentist. Dorothea went with us. Dorothea helped Kimmy do her shopping. Zak got his shopping all done too, he was pleased with all the things he got. This morning Milan, Betty left with Norma and children. I pity Norma, she hates to go back so bad. Late tonight they admitted Pa into the hospital.
