The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

July 6 - 8, 1979

Friday, July 6, 1979

I did some washing in a.m. In PM Betty, Susan and I went to North Conway to Shaw’s, it was very late when we got back. I had to get supper. It was quite late when I got work done. Zak is staying up tonight. He had a shampoo and bath before he went to bed. On the cool side tonight. It has been a fair day, on the windy side.

Well a fair weather cloudy day. I have been very busy all day doing regular work and Saturday chores. Bill still working on Walt’s tractor. Betty and Walt here today. Walt helped with the tractor. Zak watched his programs all forenoon. Kimmy called. Billie down town and called to see Butch.

Sunday, July 8, 1979 JOY CAME, much hotter, Billie MOWED

A quite nice day on the humid side. Howard Millet called to see the cows this morning. He will let Billie know tomorrow. Well, I got my work done and went down to Fern’s for the cookout. We visited a while. We had a very nice party, they all enjoyed the outside games etc. Had a nice meal. Jeff Smith was here so he was invited. When I got home, Butch called and told Billie to start mowing. So he mowed the heavy field, all done. Dawn called a little while, she paid for the stove. Later in evening Jeff and Paula called. I was very pleased. Jeff seems more relaxed than he has for a long time. Paula too seems more grown-up. Also Jeff Smith and Billie D called. Joy came from Texas today. WHAT NEXT??
