The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 5 - 8, 1978

Sunday, March 5, 1978 Cold and windy

This is been a very nice sunny day, but very cold and windy. I got my work done up very early. Cleaned the smelts. In PM Dorothea and Dave called and the Horton family. Bill is getting worse every day. He may have to go into the hospital for test etc. Paula has a job at B & M. Jeff goes in for an interview tomorrow.

Speaking of BEANS! Carmen cleaning up after dinner!

Monday, March 6, 1978

A clear day and sunny, but the wind blowed unmerciful. It was a very heavy wind and cold too. I did a wash, got them out early (they twisted and wound so tight around the lines). Because Betty and I went up to Shaw’s shopping. Got home about 1:30. Billie back working on regular time now.

Tuesday, March 7, 1978 cold and windy

A nice sunny day but very very windy. I done up my work and went down and helped Betty some. Susan came and got the car to go to town. Bill is much improved, he was out today.

Wednesday, March 8, 1978 Zak sick, very nice spring day

This is been a very nice sunny mild day. NO WIND. I done a wash, they dried good and quick. In PM I went to Andrews with Fern and Susan. Lloyd is quite good. His mind was clear today. Bill is much better today. He drove over and got Susan.
