The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

January 29 - 31, 1975

Wednesday, January 29, 1975

This is been a bad day. When we got up it was cloudy. It began to snow. Turned to sleet. This evening it has been heavy winds with rain etc. Later the moon has come out. Betty and I went shopping today. I talked with Dorothea. Ilan called this p.m.

Thursday, January 30, 1975 clear

A very nice clear sunny day. I done up regular work. Washed all the windows in the house. I went down to Betty’s. We went up and got her milk over to horse supply in Harrison. Came home, got lunch. Zak stayed here, he has a cold and didn’t go to school. Betty took me to town. I washed a dite this p.m. and did a dite of ironing. Bill plowed Lloyd and our driveway. Wind still blowed some during the day, it blew very hard last night. Icy snow branches flew around against the windows etc. Walt has just had a promotion at his work and is in line for a higher up. He is smart. Colder tonight.

A nice day, on the very cold side. I was down to Betty’s all day. We done her housecleaning and got Carmen’s gifts ready for her 12th birthday. Betty made us a tuna fish casserole for my supper.
