The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

May 26 - 29, 1974

Sunday, May 26, 1974 RAIN AGAIN

Christie not very good today. She drinks a lot of water, don’t eat. A happy surprise late in p.m. Dorothea and Dave came and stayed for supper. Called at Betty’s also. I went down to Betty’s today to stay with the kids while she and Walt helped Bonnie and Jim move into their new home over in the Valley of West Bridgton.

Monday, May 27, 1974 Memorial Day

Well another miserable day. I done up regular work. It was so they could work on the barn and they did. Walt helped Bill and Billie. I picked some dandelions. Betty up here. In late p.m. went down to Betty’s. She had a cookout. Demings, Yates, Crooks and Hortons. Christie is getting so weak. She don’t eat anything.

Tuesday, May 28, 1974 CHRISTIE

Well it finally cleared today some or enough so I did my washing. Got them dried, in and ironed and mended. The wind blowed and it was on the cool side. Christie is still not eating. She is very weak. She got outside a few times tho. In p.m. Bill went to Norway to see Mr. Dow, a lawyer, for some information about his property. Betty went with him. She took me to town. The town finally fixed this culvert out in front here today. I got some letters off today.

Wednesday, May 29, 1974 RAIN AGAIN

Well, it was cloudy when I got up and then it soon began to rain again. It is so disgusting.
