The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 24 - 26, 1972 Home From The Hospital

Friday, March 24, 1972

A cloudy, snowy, rainy day. Betty went to see Kim, she is okay so far. I didn’t do much today. I went to town with Bill in a.m. to shop. I felt kind of mean, tired etc. Betty didn’t get home until about 3:30. Esther stayed at Betty’s today.

Saturday, March 25, 1972

I didn’t do much, I did some washing, regular work. Bill and Betty down to see Kimmy. She is getting along well. Baked some beans. Carmen came up to stay this weekend. Billie shoveled out the rubbish barrel. It has been a raw cold day. I made a cake. Didn’t feel too good. Betty, Walt and Zak called in evening. Lawrence Boynton not too good, results of the bad accident last fall.

Sunday, March 26, 1972 KIM CAME HOME

A long day. I done regular work. Betty left about 11 to go see Kim. Carmen out doors a while. She took a bath and shower. Read books. Zenya called a little while, they had a good time. She did some writing and drawing. Billie down to call on Lawrence, they went to Kezar Falls. Bill watched TV all day, took Christie for a ride. Fern, Lloyd, Es and Cliff down to Portland to see or call on the Stanhope’s. I’m back to normal after a few days upset. I did some washing and ironed. Kimmy has a cold, a slight fever and they want her to come home for a few days to get over the cold. It will be a month or more before Kim is rescheduled for another operation.
