The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 13 - 16, 1972

Monday, March 13, 1972

A nice day. I did some washing, went down to Betty’s to help her get her house cleaned out for the telephone man tomorrow. She is having a new phone put in upstairs. Susan called down there. Bill to town and gave Christie a ride.

Tuesday, March 14, 1972

I did a few odds and end jobs today. Down to Betty’s a little while. She had her phone changed today and a new one put in up in her bedroom. I made a pie, cooked a ham supper. Lloyd called a little while. Fern getting her hair done. I did a big wash today.

Wednesday, March 15, 1972 SNOW

Today we get another mess of snow. No school all around southwestern parts of the state. We had about 10 or 12 inches. Bill plowed out at Betty’s and here with Walt’s tractor. I cooked a pork spare ribs supper. Busy all day. I ironed. In evening Betty and kids came up. Today we brought Kimmy’s cat up here to keep for her. She is a beautiful cat. Hope she will like it here with us. Kim and Carmen up in PM. Billie home early because of storm.

Thursday, March 16, 1972

It has cleared off when we got up this morning. But what a mess of snow piled so high. Betty took me to town to shop etc. I done regular work and ironed and did a dite of washing.
