The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

I done regular work. Washed windows, dusted. Lloyd called. Betty took me to town to shop. Esther went with us. We went up to East Stoneham to look at a trailer Susan is interested in. Es over and spent the afternoon and for supper. She seemed to be some more relaxed than she had been back along.

Bill too out riding, took Christie. Lloyd called a little while. Billie Deming called. I bought some candy bars he was selling for the school. Partly cloudy in the a.m. Walt and Zak up for a little while. Done up regular work. Billie gone with Lawrence in p.m. I worked on my scraps. No one here today. Around three o’clock this p.m. Cliff arrived home. Too bad he lost his vacation in Florida. I hope it will all be for the best. They went up to Stoneham to look at the trailer home Susan wants.

A little on the cool side but it warmed up. Betty, Zak and I went to Portland to get bread, donuts. Went out to the Mall, got dog combs and a few other things. Zak was good all day. Saw Dorothea just a you minute on the way home. Got home early. Kim stayed with Bill.
