The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

October 21 - 24, 1968

Monday, October 21, 1968

Cold and windy, cloudy. I did up my work. Got ready, went to town with Fern and Lloyd and did the washing at laundry. Came home, hunt it out. Cleaned up the house. The clothes blowed awfully on the line, some blew off. Dr. Nash boarded at our house two different times. He was a pleasant person to have around. He died today.

Cooler this morning after a very cold and windy day yesterday. It is a little windy today, but clear. Astronauts landed back safe and sound this morning. I cleaned up the house and ironed, cooked today. I washed some of the windows after a small rain shower yesterday. Billie and I called at Dorothea’s after supper.

Wednesday, October 23, 1968

It was cloudy in a.m. it cleared in p.m. I finished reading a book. Done up the work, done some other odds and end jobs. In evening Raymond Gammon and his wife called to see the house. Dr. George P Nash buried today.

Thursday, October 24, 1968

Foggy in early a.m., it cleared off. I done up the work, cooked some, defrosted and cleaned  up the refrigerator on the breezeway. Did some odds and end jobs.
