The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A cloudy day after the very nice hot weather we have had for several weeks. It rained today. I done up my work. Joy and girls called. I went over to Waterford with them so she could get some apples. Bill worked today in forenoon, first time in three weeks. Fern up for supper. We talked to make plans about the trip tomorrow. I got some things ready today to go on the trip tomorrow.

A rainy cloudy day. Didn’t get up too early. It was cloudy and some rain. I got breakfast, done up the work. The rain let up and wind in the Northwest. It was broken clouds. Billie and I decided to get ready and go. We did. We picked Fern and Lloyd up at about 11 AM. We left for trip through Northern Maine. Went to Farmington on up to Rangeley Lake region. The rain cleared away and we ate dinner in Madrid, a small settlement before you come to Rangeley. Ate at a nice picnic area, roast chicken, potato salad, cukes, pickles, olives, bread, butter and biscuits. Apple pie, cheese, brownies, nuts, cookies and coffee. Drove on up through the many plantations, dense woods and timber to Rangeley, back through Errol New Hampshire, Upton, Grafton Notch and back home. Bill home with Christie. Bob, Buddy and Debbie called. Dr. George Nash died.
