The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

August 17 - 19, 1968 Bridgton Bicentennial Ends (Billie was in the Parade!!)

Saturday, August 17, 1968

This is the last day of the BICENTENNIAL August 10-17. It was all very nice, some men in town grew long beards, some of the ladies wore old-fashioned clothes. I went to the Museum over to North Bridgton with Fern and Lloyd Monday p.m. On Friday night went to the carnival with Betty and Walt, Fern went too. On Saturday Betty, Walt got Dorothea and Jeff and we went all including Bill, went to the big parade. Billie was in it. It was very good. In evening we all went to the last night of the Pondicherry Panorama. Betty, Walt and family here all weekend. Fern went with us and here for supper Saturday night. Sent Dorothea some vegetables. We had a heavy rain showers after supper, it cleared off. Except for that it has been a perfect weather week.

A very nice clear day, on the cool side of windy side. Got up about 8 AM, got breakfast and got my beef roast in for dinner. We did up the housework. Betty, Walt and kids called at Kay Fleck’s and on Rowena’s. Came home, left the kids and over to Aunt Ava’s. Uncle Lewis sick. They came back at about 4 PM. We ate supper, they liked it. Beef, corn on the cob, shell beans and cukes, pie etc. They left for home about 6 o’clock. Billie picked some vegetables for Betty and Walt.
