The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 25 - 28, 1966 Home From Hospital Again



Friday, November 25, 1966 Oil

Cloudy. We cleaned up the whole house. In p.m. got ready to go to town. Just as we are getting ready to go Mr. and Mrs. Stanford and family called to see the house. They’re coming again tomorrow too with his sister. Dorothea and I down town. Done the grocery shopping and picked up a wedding gifts for Billie to give Wesley and Cindy. Also I did some errands.               



Saturday, November 26, 1966

A nice day. We done up the work. I made rolls. Got dinner. Bill, Carmen and I went over to South Harrison to the Maple Ridge area to see the trailer. Called at Fern and Lloyd’s. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Stanford and family called and Mr. Stanford’s sister to see the house. Also Verna and children. Dave came here after the wedding. We had supper then they went away. Betty and Carmen here for supper. Billie worked for Lawrence. Wesley and Cindy married. Dave was Usher.



Sunday, November 27, 1966 KIM home again    

A cloudy showery day. Betty and Carmen here for breakfast then we went for a ride looking for a good place for Betty and the girls to live so to be nearer to Betty’s work. Didn’t find very much. We called at Nancy Dyers over in Otisfield. Came home. Betty got Kim out of the hospital again today. NCM Hospital in Bridgton. When she got home she had two TEETH. She is a doll. Kennie and Dot called. Dorothea and Dave working on their table. 



Monday, November 28, 1966 RAIN

A dreary rainy day. We washed. Dorothea took some clothes to laundry to dry. She went down and stayed at Betty’s. Betty had to go to Portland to get her Christmas things for the children.
