The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 17 - 20, 1966

Thursday, November 17, 1966

A cloudy day. I washed, done up the housework. Had the Boutilier girls all day. Dorothea away with Dave. They bought a new refrigerator and other furniture and drapes etc. Betty had an appointment in Portland. Aunt Ava called. In evening Billie and I over there, took the snaps over to show her of Susan’s dance and her boyfriend Tom.

Friday, November 18, 1966

A cloudy dreary day. I didn’t do much today, sick in the p.m. Went to bed in late p.m. Joy and Laurie called. We did up our work. Dorothea got supper. Bill got sick after he got home. Carmen got sick after she got home. 24-hour flu. Jeff sick in the night. Dorothea down town to do my shopping. We paid the rest of the bill at Stanley (?) Hillock today $145.60. Sally and Gordon’s called in evening.

Saturday, November 19, 1966 TRAILER GONE

A very nice sunny day but awful cold and windy. Bill didn’t work. We felt better but not too good. Jeff didn’t feel too good either. Betty didn’t bring the kids up. Dorothea and I did up the work. I baked beans, made rolls. Dorothea over to Joys in p.m. Today the trail left here. Ernie and Linda Field have bought it and moved it to Harrison. Billie worked for Lawrence but came home sick tonight.

Sunday, November 20, 1966

Another nice day. I got up in fair season. Done the work, made a pie. Went down to Betty’s with Dorothea. Carmen came home with us. Billie worked up to Chet’s. Dorothea and Dave moved a few things down to their apartment. Jeff went with them. Kennie and Dot called.
