The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

May 13 - 16, 1966



Friday, May 13, 1966

A nice rain. I done up my work. Betty and children came up, took me to town. I did my shopping. Came home, Barbara called.



Saturday, May 14, 1966

I done up my regular work. Betty and children came home with Bill. I had to go to town. Betty took me. Then she and Mike took a little ride around. They had supper here. We took them home after supper. Billie hauled out his manure today for the garden.



Sunday, May 15, 1966

A nice day. I washed. Betty and Carmen had company, Mike was over. They took him home today. They both had such a good time and the children to enjoyed their Poppa. Carmen over to Laurie’s birthday party. I washed and ironed. Billie worked up to Chet’s most all day.



Monday, May 16, 1966

It was a very nice sunny day. I got my wash out early. Got ready, went to town. Done a dite of shopping. Called at Lil’s. Betty and Carmen here for supper. Betty misses Mike. They had a pleasant weekend. I got my new permanent today at June’s. Betty got supper for me. I ironed tonight after supper.
