The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

It rained all day hard. I finished all my odds and end jobs today. Went to town with Betty and Carmen and Kimberly. Betty is real pleased about Mike. He moved back to Bridgton today from Auburn. Has a room at Mrs. Adams. Goes to work tomorrow for John Briggs. Billie had to work late. Joy called. No work at Lloyd’s today.

I got up at four. It was cloudy but with breaking clouds. I took a bath, got ready. Betty came for me about five. We left about 25 after, got to Portland. Got my ticket. Waited for the plane, left at 7:15. Got to Boston at 10 to 8. And it had cleared off.  At 8:30 got on the plane. At 8:50 we started by four motor jet. It was very pretty all the way. One place was all above the clouds then they disappeared and it was so beautiful and could see everything over mountains and all. Es, Sue and Tom met me at airport. Was glad to see them all. Cliff is so thin. Billie D has the mumps. In evening went to the car races at night.
