The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 8 - 11, 1994 Tom Starts New Job

Tuesday, March 8, 1994

A nice day, very mild. Sunny. It rained last night. Last night Cameron had another bad fall. I hope nothing serious comes from it. This is his third serious blow this week. Well it was a rainy day most all day. Carmen came and did the work. Mrs. Graham, the nurse, came for Billie. I didn’t do much today. Carmen put $100 in savings for me today. Kim and Tom gone to Augusta today to check out Tom’s arrival for tomorrow’s job and a place to live etc. They go to Betty’s tonight for a spaghetti supper. The whole family.

Tom plowed today. A very nasty miserable day, it was cloudy, rain and ice on the trees and wires. Gloomy. We watched soaps in p.m. Carmen came this morning, done her work. She is bushed from working all night. David had more sheep last night and today. Dorothea came, got the supper. Baby got hurt again today. I wish I could have him around more. I love him so much. I enjoyed Brogan so much, still do.

A dite on the cold side. Carmen came, done all her work. Looks very nice. Betty called in for a minute today. Dorothea came and got the supper. Tonight Betty, Dorothea, Carmen, Joy and Brogan all went to the movies. We have a lot of snow around. I hope it will go and soon.
