The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 20 - 23, 1994

Sunday, February 20, 1994

 

When we got up it was kind of cloudy. But it soon cleared away and became sunny and very mild. Dorothea came and got the breakfast and done all the work. Walt came for coffee and talked. I wrote to Esther today. A new nurse came for Billie today. A different one comes every day or nearly every day. I watched the show This Week With David Brinkley. Betty got the supper tonight. Today Brogan hauled Cameron down through the field to Betty’s on a sled. He kept tipping off. Brogan kept sinking in the snow. I enjoyed watching them.

 

 

 

Monday, February 21, 1994

 

Another nice mild day, the snow settled a lot. It have gone down a lot. We can see all of the cars now when they go by on the road. Carmen came and done her work. Also the nurse came and done Billie. Betty got the supper tonight. Zac was here, also Walt. He hadn’t been up for a long time for supper. Zac was here today, he looks very good. He is doing okay now in Portland. We saw Cameron a little while today. Carmen here tonight. The vacuum man came and brought some cleaner bags.

 

 

 

Tuesday, February 22, 1994

 

cloudy today. The clouds got heavy in p.m. I didn’t do anything today. Carmen came and did all the work, she worked again last night Brogan stayed here last night. Slept very good. Betty came up in p.m., brought up some cookie dough. Very good. Walt got wood today. It has been so cold it has taken more than he expected it would. A very big storm is expected tonight.

 

 

 

 

 

Wednesday, February 23, 1994

 

A nice sunny day. Carmen came and done her work. Betty called in a minute. Dorothea came and got the supper, roast beef. It was a good supper. Brogan had a good time at her Grammys.
