The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A nice sunny day. Betty came, she cleaned some more of the cupboards and drawers. Did the bathroom and this living room. Cupboards and drawers. I looked over a lot of boxes etc. Brogan to school.

A miserable day, cloudy and showers. I looked over some boxes that were in the closet. Betty got them out. Nurse here for Billie this morning. Carmen came, did her work. She had come to get the supper and had customers. She had the kids tonight. A miserable day.

At last some bare spots showing up in the field. I’ll be so glad when they begin to grow. Well Carmen came this morning after working all night. She is tired. Brogan to school today. She is better. I looked over some more boxes etc. Carmen here, got breakfast, done up the chores. She has more customers today. She is doing more customers all the time. A cloudy rainy day. Dorothea here and got the supper.

It was nice and sunny. On the cold and windy side. Carmen came, got the breakfast. Went home, got Bro off to school. Went down, down her barn chores.
