The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 24 - 27, 1994

 

Thursday, February 24, 1994

 

A miserable day, it snowed and rain. Sleety. Not too warm either. Carmen came, did her work. Nurse came for Billie. I did a dite of wash. Carmen took care of it. Tom and Kim dropped in for a little while. Was very glad they called. Tom got a new job and is pleased about it. I’m very glad for them. It will be a while before they move up to his area. I have made a boo-boo all right. Betty got the supper. A letter from Esther today.

 

 

 

Friday, February 25, 1994

 

A quite nice day. Carmen came early, she did a lot of work. Came early. Also shampooed my hair and put a rinse on it. Everything is okay.  Nurse Mrs. Ayers came and did Billie. Cameron was here, he is cute and a devil all in one. Betty to the doctor for her back. Dorothea here for the supper. We had a good one. She had to go home early because David thought the sheep were going to lamb. I hope they will wait until he gets home from work. Betty came to fix the TV.

 

 

Saturday, February 26, 1994

It was a cold day. Windy. Nice and sunny. I didn’t do much as usual. I wish I could do the same as I used to. Carmen came and did her usual. David came and had coffee as usual Saturday morning. Also Billie’s nurse came for him. Carmen and Brogan gone out for the day alone. It was nice. Arnold’s took care of his son. Betty came and got the supper tonight. Zac came and was here for a little while.

 

 

Sunday, February 27, 1994

 

It was quite cloudy in the a.m. but it cleared away in the sun came out. The wind is still blowing. It blowed all night long. I wish it would let up and it would warm up. Dorothea came early. She got the breakfast and done the work. Also washed a few things out. Zac came up for coffee and Walt too. Carmen called and brought some donuts. The nurse came and helped Billie. She was very late coming though.
