The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Friday, March 25, 1994

 

Cloudy when we got out. Carmen came very early. She had Cameron with her. She got breakfast, went home, got Brogan off to school. Went down, done her chores. Then came back and done the cleaning, washed floors and all. It is so hard for her to have so much to do then when she works at the hospital. It is so hard for her. Her feet are bad, one heel. At last Carmen got her engagement ring. Very pretty and I’m so pleased about it. I hope Arnold is as happy about it as she is. I hope her plans go along as she is expecting them to. I wish her health were better.

 

 

 

Saturday, March 26, 1994

 

This has been a very nice sunny day. David here for coffee. Also the nurse came to do Billie. Carmen came and did all the work. Carmen came at noon and got the mail and lunches. No one here today until p.m. then Betty came, got the supper. Carmen and Arnold out for afternoon and evening. I wrote to Esther today.

 

 

 

 

Sunday, March 27, 1994

 

Dorothea came at about 6 o’clock. Done a lot of her work. Walt came for coffee. Dorothea got the breakfast and done up the work. She was here until about 1130. Then she and Betty Smith went to the BHC Ctr. to see Dot Smith. She is doing very well. Betty came and got the supper tonight. Well it is snowing hard today, everything is all white again. Winter winter. I hate it.

 

 

 

Monday, March 28, 1994

 

Well it is more or less cloudy. More and more snow all around. Well it was cloudy most all day, I dite of sun today. Well this forenoon Kim came and brought a beautiful bouquet of daffodils. Also Betty and Zac also came and Zac brought me a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Betty came and got the supper. A good one. Today Brogan didn’t go to school, she was sick also Cameron was still sick with bad cold. Carmen worked last night. Also has got to work tonight.
