The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Another one of those cloudy dreary days. I didn’t do anything except I read the paper, make out store list. Carmen came and did her work. Also the nurse came for Billie, talked with Betty. She is busy writing letters about the camp which they are going to sell. Carmen worked all night. So today she is so tired. She went to town just the same. This evening Tom called. He likes his new job very much. It is very interesting to him. We was glad to see him.

On the cool side today. Some cloudy and some sun. Carmen came early. Done up the work then to town. We got corn beef on to cook for supper. Dorothea is supposed to come in p.m., kind of early to get it to cooking. Well we had a corn beef and cabbage supper tonight. We had guests; Betty, Walt, Carmen, Kim and Cameron, Betty Smith. Also Jeff and his girlfriend came later. His girlfriend was the first time we ever met her. She seemed nice and quiet. Also Tom came for supper. We was glad he had a chance to come. We are so pleased about his new job, he too likes it and satisfied. He is a smart guy.

A quite nice day. The snow went some today, not too much. Carmen came and did her work today. It always looks so nice after it is all done. Nurse came and did Billie. An accident at the airport today. We watched it on TV news and we saw Zak. I am so glad he is working there. I hope he keeps the good job. A surprise today, Kim called and visited an hour or so. I am so pleased she came. Today Arnold finished the trimming at the orchard. Dorothea came and got the supper. A good one. Betty dropped in a little while. They had a plane accident at the airport. That is how we happened to see Zak.
