The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Saturday, March 12, 1994

 

A very nice sunny day. The snow is dripping from the roofs today. Carmen came, and did her work this morning. Also a nurse came for Billie. David came for coffee. His sheep are doing very well. No report of Cameron falling or getting hurt today or yesterday. I wrote to Esther today.

 

 


 

Sunday, March 13, 1994

 

Dorothea came and got the breakfast and done up the morning work. The nurse came for Billie. Betty brought up two tapes today. Brogan was here in p.m. Billie got the pizza for Zak, he and Brogan. Arnold pruned apple trees. Cameron got hurt again today. I worry so much about him. I hope these falls that he has got won’t cause any side effects. David had two more sheep today. Three are more to come.

 

 

 

Monday, March 14, 1994

 

Another cloudy day. I read the paper. Zac up for coffee. Will spring weather ever come? Carmen came and did her work. Zac came for coffee. Also brought up a tape to play. Betty came, got the supper. Cameron came today for a short visit.

 

 

 

March 15, 1995 PAPA’S Birthday

 

Carmen came and did her work. David came for coffee this morning. He had two more lanbs born this morning. Rosalie called today or this fore noon. Betty came early p.m. to get the supper. It was a good one.
