The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A nice day, a lot of sun. Very mild. I got up early. Got the work done up. Betty came and took me down to Barbara’s at 1:30 PM. I took my bath this morning early. Carmen, Kim were here and Brogan. Carmen cleaned the house early. David came down this morning to help Billie.

A nice sunny day, not too cold. I got up early, got breakfast and the work done up early. Got floors done. We went to Vermont to visit David’s aunt. Billie went to. It was a very pretty ride. All enjoyed it. We had a very good lunch at Friendly’s lunch stop in New Hampshire. Drove on up to (blank) to visit his grandmother. A very nice pleasant old lady at age 95. We enjoyed the visit very much. Got home at about 7:30.

Sunday, October 15, 1989 Celebrated Brogan’s third birthday

Up to Carmen’s today for Brogan’s three-year birthday. A nice party. A beautiful cake made by her Aunt Kim. A very nice time put on by Carmen, Kim and Zenya. She got a lot of nice gifts and clothes. She was so pleased and excited. She, as well as everyone, enjoyed it all very much. Kind of a cloudy day. Betty, Walt, Zack, Dorothea, Billie, Joy, Debbie, Jessica, Danica, and Leeanna, Robert, Charlene and myself were there.
