The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A dite of sun off and on and a lot of rain today. It cleared at times and the sun came through once in a while. Anyway Billie wanted to know if we, Esther and me, wanted to go for a ride. We went for a long one way up to Newry and Screw Auger Falls, Bethel. It was a nice ride. Enjoyed it very much. Came home, Esther prepared a good supper.

A quite nice day. We done up the regular work. Esther got the supper all prepared. She and Billie went to Norway and got some more blueberries and got me a new ironing board and cover. In PM Billie Deming and family came. They stayed for supper, also Susan came also. We had a nice roast beef dinner, string beans, cukes and tomatoes. A delicious blueberry pie she made. We had a nice time and enjoyed it very much. Today I got a large box of Swiss chocolates from Jeff for my birthday. A very nice card too. About 25 pounds of candy. They are delicious.

A quite nice day. It was hot and humid. Carmen feeling better all the time. Esther made two loaves bread (date nut). We didn’t do much else. In late PM Billie and family came and Susan came and cut Esther’s hair. We sat out on back porch. Betty busy as a parched pea. I hope she won’t get to exhausted.
