The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A very nice day, windy, on the cool side. Did regular work. Esther did an ironing. Esther and Cliff’s stone came today. Very pretty. Esther to town with Dorothea. We went down to see the store setup down to Betty’s. Billie been busy all day picking things from the garden. His foot is very lame all the time.

A beautiful clear day. Except on the windy side. I got up early, got the work done. Esther made two pies. I washed floors. I took a bath. We got ready and went down to Betty’s to the yard sale. There all day. They did very well. Sold the lot of it. Carmen, Zenya and Kim had charge of the selling. Dorothea and Betty acted as overseers. A lot of people came. Esther made a mac & cheese for supper.

A beautiful day, not too warm. Got up, got ready, went to camp for a cookout. I did my bills. Zak called a little while and came up to camp for the cookout. No one got into the water, too cold. Kim was there, she had this weekend off.  Tonight up to the new house and saw the new lights.  Very pretty.
