The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

January 30 - 31, 1989

 

Monday, January 30, 1989

 

I did the wash. I done up regular work. Billie to town to get grain and medicine. I watched the morning soaps. We watched TV soaps in PM. I did a few odd and end jobs. I straightened out the closet back of my chair. Looked over some papers etc.

 

Tuesday, January 31, 1989

 

A quite nice day. I got my work done up early. Got ready, went down to Betty’s. She came and got me, also Betty S. We looked at her albums. Carmen and Brogan was there. Betty S got some Italian sandwiches and pizza for lunch. Carmen had to go to work at three till seven. Kim worked the morning shift for Carmen. They are getting along so well up to “my house”. I made a chocolate pudding and cocoa this morning.

 

January Summary

 

Betty to NCM hospital for bladder operation. She had it and got over it okay. Also Joy had the same operation at the same time. She too came out okay. I dite slower going to full power than Betty. Well Zak got a job working for the state this month. He and all are very pleased also for him. I hope all goes well and you will be able to stay. I wish him the very best. Kim went to court. She didn’t get the 24-hour jail sentence. A big relief. She lost her drivers license for three months. April 12. She will have to depend on the family to get back and forth. Zack over to the NG for his weekend. Zak used Kim’s car a few weeks. Joy had another granddaughter. Laurie and Jan had a girl Alyssa Delphine Boucher. Jeff called a few times this month, we don’t see him very much. The whole family had colds this past month.
