The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Kim was here today. Carmen and Brogan. I made two pies. A blueberry and a mince pie. I made the blueberry for Betty and Walt. Betty is doing quite well since she got home. Joy is gaining slowly but is okay. Zack came up today. He will have Kim’s car while she can’t drive. I worked on the puzzle.

A cloudy day, snow and rain, not too much. Well today Kim went to court. She was happy or relieved it is over. She don’t get that jail of 48 hours. Also all she got was a fine of $350 and lost her license for 90 days. It will be back to her April 12 on her birthday. It will be a problem on the question of getting her back and forth to work. I done up regular work. Washed. Carmen, Brogan and Kim came up for breakfast. The bacon Kim got for Christmas. I worked on the puzzle. Betty is gaining but slow. The house is coming very good.

A nice sunny day. Cold and windy. I did a wash. Carmen called. Dennis had Brogan, he took her to the doctors for her shots. I worked on the puzzle, watched the soaps.

A very nice day. Sunny and not too cold. I done up regular work. Did the Saturday work. David came down, he and Billie had coffee. I didn’t get a chance to work on the puzzle, it is a hard one. Carmen, Betty and Brogan came and got me. I went up to the new house and we all went to the second floor. It is so nice. It will be a beautiful home for them. Kim had to work today. Walt took her. I had Betty Smith up for the afternoon and for supper. She was pleased. We enjoyed her visit. They all went to Laurie’s shower in evening at Debbie’s. Laurie got a lot of nice things.
