The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 13 - 16, 1989

 

Monday, February 13, 1989

 

A nice sunny day. I did the wash. Got things to going for the supper. I made a chocolate pudding. Kim made a cheesecake. I got the chicken to cooking. I been busy all day. Carmen and Kim called and Brogan. Betty came later, they had lunch. Carmen better. Kim is doing okay. Betty and the girls went over to Norway to look at kitchen cabinets. Betty and Walt came for supper, also Zak came. They enjoyed it very much. Well it seemed good not to have to work on puzzle.

 

 

 

Tuesday, February 14, 1989 Valentine’s Day

 

It cleared off and was a nice day. Carmen, Kim and Brogan called. Carmen cleaned the house and I did a wash. I got  a lot of nice gifts for Valentines. Beautiful cards, a nice cake (good). Also 5 pounds of chocolate. The kids got lobster for Betty and Walt. They had a good supper.

 

 

 

Wednesday, February 15, 1989

 

It was snowing hard when we got up this morning at about six, then it began to rain. At about noon it cleared off and sun came out. I didn’t do much today, odds and end jobs. Worked at the desk. Watched my shows.

 

 

 

Thursday, February 16, 1989

 

It is a very nice sunny day, warm temperatures. I got the work done up early then I worked at the desk. Carmen and Kim called. They were on their way to Norway. We watched TV soaps. I made a mince pie.
