The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

This is been a nice sunny day. I done a dite of wash. I worked on puzzle. Kim called. She finished doing it. Carmen came up. She went to town for me. Brogan was here. She is so smart  and cute. Zack to the basketball game at Lake Region High. The car (Kim’s) broke down coming home. He had it towed to Ron Smith’s.

A dite of clouds in PM. Quite sunny and mild. I did regular work, washed floors, made a cake. David came. Carmen and Brogan came, had lunch. Then we went up to see the new house. Then down to Betty’s, first time I’ve been down since Christmas. Billie read his papers and magazines all today.

A nice sunny day. Some clouds in PM. I worked at the desk all day. Got the bills made out. I sent out some greeting cards. Walt up for coffee. Billie worked in the barn all forenoon. He turned the cows out. Betty, Walt, Carmen, Brogan and Zack went to New Hampshire to look at trailers. It has been a very nice mild day, snow melted off the roofs.
