The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

December 25 - 27, 1988 Christmas Day

Sunday, December 25, 1988 A VERY NICE DAY, CHAIR, COUCH

Everyone had a very nice Christmas. Got a lot of nice gifts. Billie got a new chair. I got a new couch. Very nice. I got to the lamps, very pretty and a desk full of supplies, money, socks, pictures of Brogan and Cindy Wolf. A nice day and dinner. Brogan enjoyed her gifts. She got a doll named Wendy. She enjoyed that very much. In evening Jeff came and spent the evening. He helped Billie and me get the tree out and cleaned up. Dorothea, David, Jeff and Fern, Billie, Betty Smith, Kim’s friend Eddie and all the Horton family except Carmen. We had Brogan.

A beautiful day, sunny and clear. Not too cold. I didn’t get up very early. 7:15. I done regular work. Looked at Christmas cards etc. Got lunch. Watch soaps. Billie didn’t do much either. A very nice day yesterday.

A very nice day. I done up regular work, did the wash. It seemed good to have everything cleaned up from Christmas. We watched the shows in PM. No one here. In late PM Zak came. I invited him for supper. Dennis brought Brogan home. She had a nice Christmas at her dad and his family.
