The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

May 12 - 15, 1986 New Dog For Nanny

 

Monday, May 12, 1986 We, Eddie, Kim and I went to see Cassie today, Began the housecleaning

 

Not a very good day, cloudy and showers. Well I got up early. I got the breakfast. Made a chocolate layer cake. I cleaned the walls and ceilings in the bedrooms, wall pictures etc. I got ready, Eddie and Kim and I went to see Kassie. She looked so good. Eddie and Kim will go to see her and work with her tomorrow and Wednesday. Then she comes home here to her new home Friday. We, Betty, Carmen and I got the two bedrooms done today. Also corner closet and living room. Kim and Eddie down to Betty’s for supper.

 

 

 

Tuesday, May 13, 1986

 

A beautiful day. Very mild today. Betty came, she got the living room cleaned and the back porch. It all looks very nice. I done some odds and end jobs. Milan called, also Eddie called. Billie out and in. Bill out to town and went fishing. Carmen and Dennis here in PM. Also Carmen called in evening for a little while.

 

 

 

Wednesday, May 14, 1986

 

A very nice sunny mild day. Very warm. Today the kitchen got cleaned thanks to Betty H and Betty S. Also Carmen. They have done very well in all of the house, it looks so nice and clean and shiny. Billie harrowed the gardens. Bill helped Billie. A possibility Kim may not go to Indonesia. Susan’s car broke down.

Thursday, May 15, 1986 Kassie K Boulter

 

Billie to the doctors to learn had to take penicillin. Gee, I dread that business. Well today at about 11 AM Kassie Kim Boulter came to make her new home here and live with us. We hope we will all make it okay. She is a nice dog. Betty came today and washed all the windows on the outside, garage and all. She also cleaned the breezeway, now it is all DONE. Carmen and Dennis here today also.
