The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Thursday, April 10, 1986 Billie home from NCM Hospital

 

Well what a miserable day. Billie quite good until PM he began to have chest pains, gas and sick. So after supper he began to throw up. He was so sick. Well we was worried and got him to go to the hospital. The Dr. gave him a couple shots for nausea and he could come home. He was quite good all night. Slept well. He and Bill had bowel troubles. I made a pot roast.

 

 

 

Friday, April 11, 1986 BILL TO HOSPITAL

 

We have all kinds of weather, snow, hail, rain and nice sunshine and sickness. I did a wash. Well early at about 2 AM Bill got up but had a heart spell or low on blood. He said he would have to go to the hospital. I called Betty, she came up and called the ambulance and Dr. Marcia. They gave him oxygen on way to hospital. He had to have blood, oxygen etc. Billie was better today, not so much pain. Stomach more settled.

 

 

 

Saturday, April 12, 1986

 

April weather. I done up my work, swept, dusted, washed floors, baked my beans. No rolls. Billie still going to the toilet. Zack came up. David called this morning.

 

 

 

Sunday, April 13, 1986 Bill Home

 

Some clouds early this morning but it cleared later and a beautiful day. It warmed up in late PM. Bill came home from the hospital. He is better. Milan, Walt, Carmen, Betty H, Betty S and Dorothea and David called. Billie stomach is better, his toe seems better. Zack called and I invited him for supper. Betty and Walt up to Tom and Charlene’s for supper.
