The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 31 - April 2, 1986 Billie in Hospital

 

Monday, March 31, 1986 Billie to NCM Hospital today

 

Another very nice mild day, sunny and very warm, the wind blowed. I did the washing. Milan called. Carmen and Dennis called. Bill to the Dr. for checkup, he is very good. Billie to the Dr. and they put him into the hospital for his foot and leg. It looks very bad. Carmen called on her way to her mother’s for supper. This is her day off.

 

 

 

March highlights

 

Had quite a variety of weather this month (March) but the last few days were nice hot springlike weather. Snow all gone down to the big piles or banks. Bill has been improving a lot since he has been going to the barn and outside. Jeff has been doing a lot of skiing this year. Angel came home the 12th of this past month. Billie came home from the hospital this past month. Bill was in Mercy Hospital to be stretched out in his throat again. Dorothea is very bad with her skin rash. Carmen has been having bad asthma and Dennis too. Graph

 

Tuesday, April 1, 1986

 

A very nice hot day. I did a dite of wash. Dorothea called, also Carmen and Susan. Betty had company. Billie is about the same.

 

 

 

Wednesday, April 2, 1986

 

The weather we are having is right out of all expectations. Mild, sunny and very warm. In a.m. Bill and I called at Dorothea’s to see Fern. It was on the coolish side this morning. I watched TV in PM. Eddie left today to go to Boston to have his leg operated on. She is beginning her spring cleaning.
