The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Tuesday, April 29, 1986

 

A beautiful day, very mild. Holly came, she got half of the cleaning done, walls, ceilings and wood work. I puttered around some. Zack here in PM and Dorothea. Betty H got her upstairs all done today. Called Kim tonight, she is pleased Eddie is home. I did my ironing.

 

 

 

Wednesday, April 30, 1986 NEW TV

 

It was cloudy and foggy when we got up. Foggy and cloudy most all day. Late in PM the sun came out. I did the blue bathroom or finished the tile and fixtures today, radiator in my room too. Billie out all forenoon, went after milk then came back and watched his TV shows. Bill has read books all day. Zack up a minute after school. Betty and Carmen got a new TV today because her other one did not work. Betty C and Milan called. I called at Betty and Milan’s to see the new furniture and curtains. Their place looks very nice. Holly done rest of it yesterday.

 

 

 

Monthly update

 

Billie had his big toe taken off on April 4 at the NCM Hospital. Bill to the hospital for lack of blood. Eddie to Mass General and had a operation on his leg. He came home but had to go back because of his leg. He came back to stay with Kim till she leaves to go to Indonesia for a while

 

 

 

Thursday, May 1, 1986

 

Carmen took Bill to Dr. Winchenbach at Mercy Hospital. He is doing very well. He stretched his throat. Carmen did some clothes shopping for herself. Kim and Eddie to Portland. Kim got her pictures taken for her passport, also got her passport.
