The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 25 - 27, 1985

Monday, November 25, 1985

 

A nice day, on the very cold side. It is very cold tonight. I got up early, got my work done. Got my washing most done. Then watched my programs. Then Kim came, Fern, Dorothea, Betty. Then Milan and Betty came with the donuts. Four dozen assorted doughnuts from Dunkin’ Donuts in Paris. Had coffee, donuts and cheese. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. Fern took a nap. Bill not feeling very good til PM then he changed. Got better and ate a big supper. Betty Smith and I helped to wrap gifts at Betty’s.

 

 

 

Tuesday, November 26, 1985

 

Up early, got my work done. It was cold. Betty and I went down to Betty S. We went over to Carmen’s and went to Norway shopping. Groceries. Betty S did some Christmas shopping and Betty H too. I came home, got supper. Missed all my shows except part of General Hospital.

 

 

 

Wednesday, November 27, 1985 No School

 

I got to work early on the pies. I made a custard, lemon sponge and some filled cookies. I got to watch the soaps in PM on the kitchen television. Bill not feeling very good. Went to town to get some cigarettes. Well it was a very bad sleet and rain and snow, the traveling was bad. Many schools off including SAD 61. I shampooed my hair and put a rinse on.
